RNC Chairman Priebus Statement on the November Unemployment Report

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement on the November jobs report:

“Today’s unemployment report is positive news for American families heading into the holiday season but fails to mask the damage President Obama’s policies have inflicted on the U.S. economy. The new number reflects a troubling trend: workers are leaving the labor force in droves as they give up looking for work.

“Over two years after passing a ‘stimulus’ that this president vowed would keep unemployment below 8 percent, America hasn’t seen the progress we were promised. On the contrary, the jobs market is so discouraging that fewer and fewer Americans are attempting to look for employment.

“Only in an economy so badly damaged by Democrats’ policies would the White House celebrate 8.6 percent unemployment. The fact is unemployment remains unacceptably high. It’s time President Obama and Senate Democrats stop the political games and instead act on the more than 20 bipartisan jobs bills House Republicans have already passed. We need a president who focuses on getting Americans back to work, not trying to save his own job.”

Action Required to Save Unemployment Benefits

Right off the bat, let's get something done: Sign The Petition to reauthorize the full federal unemployment insurance program through 2012 before it expires Dec. 31. Unless Congress acts to renew federal unemployment insurance, nearly 2 million hardworking Americans will be cut off in the month of January alone, and more than 6 million will lose these benefits during 2012. The AFL-CIO is delivering the petition to Congress this afternoon, so please sign now!
